Vibrant Economy Commission: Future of Manchester’s Healthcare

vibrant-manchester

As a commission member I was thrilled to attend this Manchester focused event on the 24 November.

This next stage of the Vibrant Economy Inquiry, hosted by Grant Thornton, brought together more than 100 leaders from across the region to collaborate on ideas that could help turn the city into a pioneer of world class health.

The interactive day saw groups share ideas and feedback, while attendees were also addressed by speakers from across the Manchester region. It focused on imagining a proactive and preventative future for Manchester’s healthcare.

I am looking forward to seeing how this exciting project develops.

The Chair and Chief Executive’s Relationship… Getting it Right

Trustees Week

On the 2 November 2015 I was delighted to speak at a panel discussion at this year’s NCVO Trustee Conference in London – the launch event for  Trustees Week. The focus of the discussion was the relationship between the Chair and Chief Executive; an important relationship that can make or break the effective governance of a charity.

I shared the platform with three other fascinating speakers, Simon Morris, CEO of Jewish Care, and Nicola Grinstead and Anita Tiessen, Chair and CEO of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.  We spoke about our experiences of building productive relationships between Chair and Chief Executive – the ups and downs of managing the personal and organisational interface.

It was a lively session with insightful audience questions, expertly facilitated by Sue Pearlman, NCVO governance consultant and chair of Community Action Hertsmere.

The Accountability of Finance Directors

‘Finance Directors wear many different hats and are often drivers for change. They also play an important role in accountability and transparency.’  CFG

This was my brief at last week’s CFG Annual Conference at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in Westminster.  I was delighted to be able share my perspective on what I would expect from Finance professionals as Chair of a Board.

I and my co-presenters enjoyed a lively debate with the audience on the accountability of finance professionals in the charity sector in our morning workshop.
